Introduction: There are two parts to our project. The first being to conduct a study on the impact of Light on the artefacts to help preserve them in the Hwa Chong Heritage Centre and the second being creating a website and showcasing a virtual tour of the Heritage Centre to reach out and educate a greater audience.

Background Information: HCI’s Heritage Centre houses many important artifacts depicting the development of the school and part of Singapore’s education history, the Chinese High culture and significant changes in the school, and also the achievements of the school.

Light is one of the main causes of artifact damage. Therefore, we need to conserve and protect the artifacts properly. The main sources of UV radiation are natural daylight and fluorescent lamps/bulbs. Their wavelengths range from 300nm-400nm. They have the shortest wavelengths among the lights and hence are the most damaging. Infrared light produces heat and causes heat damage to artifacts, but our seniors have already done a project on the Humidifier and it has been implemented into the Heritage Centre to cool down or heat up the Heritage Centre to the suitable temperature to prevent further damage from infrared light.
